CEO Silvers Backs Nicks
“I am confident as well as the club and our board that he is going to be our next premiership coach.”
That was the statement made by Crows CEO Tim Silvers on the 22nd of April, when the Crows had one win from the first six games.
Since that date, the Crows rectified that one win start to the season, winning games against North Melbourne, Port Adelaide, West Coast and drawing to Brisbane.
However, the club have now slumped again on field, and after three straight loses to Hawthorn, Richmond and Sydney respectively, the wolves are again at the gates of West Lakes.
Post-game on Saturday after the Swans loss, Nicks mentioned his brand of football;
“When [the] team’s playing the brand we want to play, it’s not individual,” he stated.
“It’s 18 guys that are doing it all at once and we get to the end of the game and no one really knows who best.
“We could have got to halfway through that third quarter and it would have been this. No one is the whole team. We didn’t finish that way though.
“I’ve got a pretty good footy club looking after me at the moment,” Nicks mentioned on the Crows.
“That’s one of the most positive things to come out of this. It’s challenging, but I’ve got full backing at this footy club. John [Olsen, Chairman] and Tim [Silvers, CEO] have been amazing for me, our playing group has been incredible.
“Through this tough time, it looks like we’re sticking tight. I hope that’s a sign of the sort of human I am. We’re not gonna give up, we’re gonna keep pushing through.
“We actually feel like we are making progress. It’s dangerous to say that, because our results don’t show that. We have frustration, but we understand we heading in the right direction.”
Nicks still believes there’s a finals berth for Adelaide in 2024, saying, “There’s a long way to go in the season.”
7AFL’s Theo Doropoulos today reported that the CEO Tim Silvers is conducting a review of the clubs “football department staff and structure” during the bye.
He also mentioned that Matthew Nicks’ position is not in “jeopardy”.
However, there are already plans for the 2025 season taking shape at the Crows, with SEN’s Michelangelo Rucci confirming that the club had reached out to GWS assistant coach, Brett Montgomery, about a move back home. This would be to work under Nicks.
