Returning for an extraordinary 2024, the Unley Gala offered a uniquely fun array of fashion, entertainment, food, and much more!

The Unley Gala is the precursor to the Santos Tour Down Under’s Wchwalbe Men’s Stage 6 start, providing an ecstatic start to the stage. The event was a must for people who enjoy entertainment, food, fun and of course fashion!

Self-proclaimed ‘Adelaide’s Best Street Party,’ it occurred on King William Road, Unley. The event was organised by the City of Unley, featuring numerous activities for everyone of all ages, from live fashion shows, multiple DJ pods, kids crafts, to cool roaming entertainers. Restaurants, bars, and boutiques all added to the experience, opening that evening to showcase their treats.

A key highlight from the night had to be the live runway performances, showcasing innovative designs from local boutiques. The performance had over 10 models participating for the crowd three times throughout the night.

There were also amazing performances from the Gospel Collective, a powerful vocal group.

One of the event goers Charli Paulson, 17, stated:

“The Unley Gala was eye-catching to say the least. I felt it stood apart from that of any other, through stylistic choices made. I especially enjoyed the bright blue 70’s style eyeshadow worn by some of the models!”

“I really wish more events like it would attempt things like that! It was exciting!””

“At some stage, they had two of the male models dancing on stage, it made it feel more engaging and it created a ‘feel-good’ experience.”

Many event goers enjoyed the fashion side of the event. People spoke to a common theme about the depth provided by fashion. Throughout each runway show, the crowd thickened whenever the models walked.

Events such as these, that include fashion, are very important to young people in particular. Youth culture is inextricably linked to self-identity through fashion, and the expansion of these types of events would be very beneficial not just to the state economy, but to younger people more broadly.

Clearly, the event was popular; a reasonable observation would suggest over 1000 people attended. More local governments should be involved in these types of pop culture events.
