Port Load up on New Recruits Ahead of Alberton Showdown

Port have turned to six fresh faces ahead of the Showdown as they unleash Molly Brooksby (Norwood), Piper Window (Glenelg), Shineah Goody (Woodville-West Torrens), Kirsty Lamb (Western Bulldogs), Teagan Germech (Greater Western Sydney), and Caitlin Wendland (Brisbane) to take on the Crows.

For Brooksby, Goody and Window, all three joined Port as stars of the SANFLW.

Brooksby was a member of the AFLW Academy in her draft year. Goody was named MVP at the AFLW U18 Championships in 2022, as a bottom-ager. Window became the eighth SANFLW player to win its best and fairest medal, doing so in 2023 at just 17 years of age.

Port Adelaide coach, Lauren Arnell, dubbed all three, “Port Adelaide footballers.”

“The league debutants, Shineah Goody, Piper Window and Molly Brooksby, [they’ve] been incredible additions on and off field for our group,” Arnell went on to say.

“I think anyone that watches them play tomorrow night are going to love the way they go about it.”

Shineah Goody, in particular, is certainly getting some attention outside the four walls of Alberton.

Many are pointing to her as the likely winner of the Rising Star Award, though Arnell was quick to sweep the outside noise aside;

“Shineah, obviously there’s going to be outside noise. She’s a classy player.

“I think one really special thing about Shineah is she’s super diligent. She’s as professional as you’ll see in the league, and she’s a footy head, which I love.

“You’ll see someone, who, under contest and under pressure tomorrow night, won’t be too phased. She’ll get going about her business and we love that.”

However, Window, Goody and Brooksby aren’t the only players debuting for the Port tonight, with Kirsty Lamb, Teagan Germech and Caitlin Wendland also powering on for game one of season 2024.

Lamb, a 2018 premiership player, joined the Power in the off-season as part of an 11-club trade, ending her time at the Kennel after seven years.

Meanwhile, Germech managed seven games with the Giants, and Wendland played three games with the Lions. Wendland is also a premiership player at SANFLW level with the Central District Football Club.

Arnell went on to speak on all three;

“Caitlin Wendland is just thriving in our environment as a half forward and pressure forward who can finish really well.

“Kirsty Lamb, a childhood Port Adelaide supporter, she’s just ready to go.

“Teagan Germech, [has] been a really great addition in the contest in our back line-up.”

Arnell also mentioned how all six new players are feeling;

“They’re excited.

“The group works so hard and I think any coach doing a press conference today or yesterday going into this weekend is going to say the same thing.

“We’ve got some really strong athletes and footballers behind them who haven’t made the team this week. So the group that get that opportunity, they’ll be ready to go.”
