Get to know the interns behind Hub in this new series: Meet the Interns.

What inspired you to become a Hub Intern and what do you do in your role?

I first found out about Hub when it was being developed back in 2021 and I thought it was a really cool platform! A site built for young people, by young people. At the end of 2022, I wanted to branch out a little into different mediums of voicing my opinions, which prompted me to become a Journalist and Research Intern. In my role, I interview young people about what they’re up to (young activists, young people in the arts) and try to tell their stories as best as I can! But my main passion surrounding Hub is making news more digestible and accessible to young people, which is what I try to achieve in my role!

What are you passionate about outside of Hub?

Oh, how much time do we have? I put a lot of my focus into social issues - whether that be the housing crisis, the cost of education, the cost of living and issues surrounding our democracy and young people! There are so many issues though from LGBTQIA+ issues, the climate crisis, Indigenous peoples’ inclusion and so much more that I also devote a lot of my time to!

What does your ideal Saturday look like?

My ideal Saturday involves going for a nature walk, hanging out with friends and family, and cooking hearty soul food accompanied by a good podcast.

Best hidden gem in SA?

Arkaroola! It’s a tiny outback town in the heart of the Flinders Ranges. They provide 4WD Ridgetop tours of the mountains and hillsides and house 3 Astronomical Observatories to see the beautiful night sky (without all of the light pollution of metropolitan areas)!
