Hosie’s Return Sends Glenelg into the SANFL Decider

Lachlan Hosie returned to the Glenelg team this week, and he returned in some style. After not playing since the Round 7 encounter with Woodville-West Torrens, it took Hosie all of 102 seconds to find his first goal of the day. Glenelg would go on to book their place in the Grand Final recording a 15.8.98 to 8.12.60.

Hosie ended the day with four goals. He was assisted by James Bell (24 disposals, six clearances, six inside 50s), and Matthew Allen (22 disposals, three clearances, one goal).

For Central District, Kai Pudney (21 disposals, one goal) and Harvey Howe (17 disposals, 28 hit-outs and eight clearances) can hold their heads high as the Doggies’ season ends.

Hosie’s first set the tone for the first quarter. Allen would add a second, before Hosie added two more goals either side of the quarter-time break.

Despite being dominant all over the ground, Glenelg missed opportunities offensively, and that opened the door for the Dogs.

In the second quarter, it was Isaiah Dudley and the Dogs who started to hit back.

The game started to even as Tiger mistakes started to work their way into the game, including Oscar Adams dropping the ball in the goal square for Kade Dittmar’s goal.

The quarter itself was very even, the Dogs kicking four goals to three.

Dudley found two quick goals to get the Dogs off the mark, while McBean’s 55 metre bomb was the best of his two majors.

It was the Dogs’ rucks who were able to get the football down in the second quarter. Beau Thomas and Harvey Howe were all over McGree and Holder.

At half-time, Howe was joined by Kade Dittmar with the most clearances on the ground - four each - while Leyton Chisholm and Kyle Presbury were lace out to the forwards when the football went inside the forward 50.

Glenelg was much better in the premiership quarter. Lead by Matthew Allen in the middle, the Bays’ game on the outside was unmatched. They turned a seven-point half-time lead into a 19-point lead at the final break.

The sealer came for the Tigers a couple minutes into the last. After a chaos ball inside 50 for the Bays, the Dogs turned the ball over. Hunter Window launched on the lose ball. Window then handballed to Lovelock who snapped a goal.

Inside vs outside
In an interesting battle, both teams had distinct strengths and weaknesses. The Dogs were controlling play inside, getting the best of the clearances and the hit-outs. However, when it hit the outside, Glenelg used their run and gun to transition the ball.
