Courtney Fastest in Practice One as Red Bulls Don’t Fire

With a minute left in Thursday’s practice session, 2010 champion, James Courtney, would save his best run for last.  He went faster than David Reynolds by over two tenths of a second, a 1:19:6835 his fastest lap time.

Will Brown, the Championship leader would finish 4 tenths behind James Courtney, recording a 1:20:0801, the sixth fastest overall.  This was still faster than Broc Feeney, who’s 1:20:3886 was only good enough for 13th place.

Nick Percat would bring it home in third, narrowly beating out Will Davidson and Chaz Mostert, their best times all under a tenth apart.

In his last weekend in a full time role, Mark “Frosty” Winterbottom didn’t waste any time as the supercars hit the track.  He was able to drag his Team 18 Chevrolet into first place, recording a 1:21:7, however that didn’t last long, as teammate David Reynolds bettered that moments later.

The chicane at turn one was causing all kinds of problems for the drivers.  Percat left some of his car in the middle of the chicane, when his front of his car went flying.   This caused a red flag, while the damage was cleared from the track.

Anton De Pasquale was next to hit the barrier on the top of the kerb, obliterating the left side of his car. However, it was still able to continue the rest of the lap before pulling into the pits for a quick repair.

James Golding had his own moment during practice, running his car into the barrier.  On this occasion, it stayed in a straight line, and the Nulon racing entry kept going with no notable damage.

The Supercars return for Practice Two Friday afternoon, before qualifying gets underway Friday evening.
