Tickford Lock Out Front Row in Adelaide 500

Cameron Waters’ lap in the top 10 shootout was next level.

Despite all the sessions showing 1:19s at the top of the charts consistently, the hot day in Adelaide was making it difficult for anyone to break out of the low 1:20s.

Running fifth, Payne was the first into the 1:20:1s.

Feeney went out next, his lap was tidy, as he placed the car on provisional pole, two hundredths up on Payne.

Thomas Randle then went better than Feeney. His first sector of a 27.3 was the best to that point. His second sector, however just let him down, a 1:20:0810 lap time placing him ahead.

Then came Cameron Waters, his first sector was a fraction slower than his teammate. His second sector, while not being purple, was up on Randle by .04 of a second.

His last sector sealed the deal, Waters the only driver into the 1:19s, as he crushed the competition.

However, the championship leader was the last car out of the gates, and everyone held their breath as Will Brown crossed the line.

Cam Waters would breath a little easier when Brown’s car slid out a corner in the first sector, a 27.5 on the timing screen not making the Red Bull garage jump for joy.

Brown saved time through the second sector. It wouldn’t be enough for the former Erebus driver, his 1:20:2183 saw him fifth. Brown split Penrite Racing’s Payne and, the surprise of the session, Blanchard Racing’s Aaron Love.

Love was the best of the rest, his 1:20:72 was the fastest before Matthew Payne entered the picture. He would finish ahead of Jaxon Evans, Bryce Fullwood, James Courtney and Macauley Jones, in that order.

Jones had a lock up heading into his turn four, his lap was over before it began.
