Torturous Turn Eight Ends Friday Qualifying

With 10 minutes left in qualifying Cameron Hill hit the wall on the entry to turn eight, from there he fired across the street and into the outside wall. The damage was monstrous.

A promising weekend for David Reynolds and the Team 18 crew quickly turned to disaster when his car hit the barrier at turn eight moments later. Reynolds came to a halt, hitting the back of Hill’s car, and causing a massive amount of damage.

Race Control then got to work, however it quickly became apparent that the session couldn’t resume. The damage to the barrier at turn 8 was too extreme, so after half an hour race control made the decision to call qualifying.

Because of such a chaotic qualfying, the grid looks a little different to how many expected. Usual suspects in both Red Bulls, (Brown and Feeney), and both Tickford’s, (Waters and Randle) are inside the top 10.

Meanwhile, fastest from Thursday’s practice James Courtney find himself in the shootout along with his teammate in Aaron Love in the Blanchard Racing Team cars, as did Macauley Jones and Jaxon Evans from Brad Jones Racing.

Chaz Mostert waited three minutes longer to begin his qualifying session and was caught up in the chaos, unable to post a time. His grid position locked at 22nd.

Reigning champion Brodie Kostecki also missed out, his best lap only good enough for 12th.

Order from qualifying;
